Moving the River

A busy few days since the last post. I have been processing pictures from a couple of shoots. This from a great portrait session with the extremely motivated and professional people from Music for Youth http://www.mfy.org.uk/. This shot will be used in their publicity material for the National Festival of Music for Youth to be held in Birmingham in July. I will be photographing some of this festival for them too. The individual portraits will appear on their website.

This was a really hectic day, not only the drive into London with the whole studio set up in the company car but then onto St Johns in Smith Square, Westminster to shoot a concert. Both these really testing the skills base. The portraits for nine people and group shots took about 4 hours to do and even though I used the studio set up I had to combat natural light and a tight space and in the morning time constraints because half of the team had to go off to meetings. I used a large white backdrop, 3 studio lights and stands, 2 diffusers and one soft box and to combat some of the natural light a ND(-3) filter on the lens. The results are pretty good.

The drive from Wandsworth to Westminster took half an hour and luckily I had managed to get a parking space at the church. For the shoot a St Johns I used only natural light for the rehearsal and ambient for the concert. I started the day at 6am and finished at 12 midnight by the time I got home.

The children in this time have not totally been neglected. They had a new Nissan to go to school in (for the day) and my wife looked after them. On the Friday evening after school my daughter wanted something for tea that she had not had before, she must have picked it up from school, a jam sandwich. Eli wanted one as well. It must have been the quickest tea I have ever made and I was going to make Delia's fish pie. My wife said I have never stooped so low.
